Canton Tigers win 2nd Place in Highland Tournament

The annual Highland Basketball Tournament wrapped up January 6 with Keokuk winning the girls title over Palmyra and Palmyra boys winning over the Canton Tigers.

The first night of the tourney had the Highland Lady Cougars defeating Kirksville 45-24. The Canton Lady Tigers won over Macon 64-36. The first night also included one boys game, Canton Tigers winning over Clark County 66-53. Palmyra girls were seeded first and had a bye in the first round.

The second evening of the tourney featured the Palmyra boys winning over Macon 59-29 and the Highland boys played Keokuk and lost 755-39. Keokuk won over the Clark County girls 60 to 23.

January 3 games included a close Highland girls game against Palmyra, with Palmyra winning 44-41. The Keokuk girls won over Canton girls 57-50. The Canton boys won over Kirksville 47-46 in another close game on January 4. Later the Palmyra boys won over Keokuk 47-36. The Macon boys defeated the Highland Cougars 51-48.

In the consolation games on Jan. 5 Macon girls won over Kirksville 40-35. The Macon boys lost to Clark County 47-38. The Highland Lady Cougars won third place defeating Canton 42-27. The Keokuk boys took home the third place trophy winning 53-47 over Kirksville.

In the Championship games on Saturday, Jan 6. The Keokuk girls took home the first place trophy winning 44-40 over Palmyra. The Canton boys took home the second place trophy losing to Palmyra 66-43.
