PATRICK RICE

Patrick M. Rice Sr., 60, of Quincy, died December 23, 2017, in Blessing Hospital with his sons, sisters and two longtime best friends, James (Pogo) Mosby and Tim Rossiter, at his side.

Patrick was born March 17, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Jake and Mary Edge. He married Shari McCready in 1984. She preceded him in death in 2003.

Patrick was a friend to everyone he met. He had a big heart and would have given the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He adopted family everywhere he went.

Patrick was the Illinois State Golden Gloves boxing Champion in 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Patrick M. (Carol) Rice, Jr. of Quincy and Joseph (Kayla Sims) Rice of Jacksonville, Ill; two grandchildren, Erica Rice and William Crumbley; two step-grandchildren, Lisa-Ann and Katelyn Catterson; two sisters, Virginia (Bobby) Brumbaugh of Lewistown, Mo., and Mary Jane (Thimothy) Parker of Edina, Mo; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In addition to his wife, Shari, Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Rose and Lester McCready, and a nephew, Brian Parker.

Visitation was held December 27, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

Memorials: to Patrick’s family to help with medical and funeral expenses. A benefit will be held at a later date.
