JOHN LOWE

John Arthur Lowe, 71 of LaBelle, Mo., died January 5, 2018, in the Knox County Nursing Home at Edina, Mo.

He was born December 18, 1946, in Kirksville, MO, the son of Arthur and Freda McPherson Lowe.

John was united in marriage to Cathy Levengood Hamlin of Nov. 9, 1984 at Columbia, MO and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2012.

John grew up on the family farm near Rutledge, Mo. He graduated from elementary school at Rutledge, Mo., High School at Memphis, Mo., and attended one year at Northeast MO State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo. John served his country in the United States Army from 1966 through 1968. Mostly in South Korea. After the service he continued helping with the family farm until his father’s death in 1968. He held various jobs, mainly as auto and agriculture mechanic in Northeast Missouri area. He was a lifetime and past commander of Walter Gillespie V.F.W. Post 4958 of Memphis, Mo.,, the American Legion Post and also a member of First Christian Church of Rutledge, Mo. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, looking for arrowheads and playing the guitar.

Surviving are sisters, Virginia Happle of Palmyra, Mo., and Carol Bartels of Kent, Ohio.

John was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister Betty Elizabeth Hudson and brothers-in-law, Ernest Bartels and Marvin Happle.

John’s wishes were to be cremated and no visitation. Graveside services will be held later in the LaBelle Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Mo.
