Dorothy L. Desvaux

Dorothy L. Desvaux, 94, of Kahoka, Mo., died February 12, 2020 at the Lewis Co. Nursing Home in Canton, Mo.

Dorothy was born January 28, 1926 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Elmer and Viola Marks Spurgeon.

 She was united in marriage to William V. Desvaux on January 4, 1947.  He preceded her in death in 1993.

Dorothy cooked or worked in retail most of her life.  Among various jobs she held was as a cook for the Canton School District, Western Auto, P.N. Hirsch and the coffee shop in Canton.  Her last employment prior to retirement was at the Doggone Saloon in Williamstown.

Dorothy was a faithful member of the Peaksville Christian Church.  She enjoyed her membership in the Canton Eagle’s Ladies Auxiliary.  She loved going fishing, driving, and visits to the Mark Twain Casino.  She dearly loved her family.

 Survivors include her son, Danny (Charlotte) Desvaux of rural Canton, MO; two grandchildren, Sabina (Keith) Davis of Kahoka and Jason Desvaux of Quincy, IL; four step grandchildren: Kelly Wilson of Williamson, Zach Dopheide of Sacramento, CA, and Clint Dopheide and Jason and Amy Dopheide all of Williamstown, MO; seventeen great grand-children; fourteen great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Carl “Bruiser” (Shirley) Spurgeon of Canton and Bill D. (Uhla) Spurgeon of Chanute, KS; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Betty VanWinkle; and four brothers: Calvin, George, Cecil, and Elmer J. Spurgeon.

 Graveside services were held February 17, 2020 at the Wyaconda Cemetery with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating.  Special music was “Dancing in the Sky”.
