DAVID B. (BRUCE) HINTON

Mr. David B. (Bruce) Hinton, 84, of Monticello, MO, died January 12, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Bruce was born February 19, 1936 to Chester Daniel Hinton and Martha Ann (Williams) Hinton at the rural family home near Monticello, MO. He was united in marriage December 28, 1958 to O. Lois VanMeter in Canton, MO.

Bruce was born on the family farm north of Monticello, MO. The family later moved to Monticello. He attended Monticello grade school and graduated from Lewistown High School. After high school graduation he attended one year at University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo, then returned home to the farm and continued farming until he was drafted into the Army in 1958. He served in the 41st Infantry at Fort Hood, Texas, then was transferred to the 4th Armored Division in New Ulm, Germany, where he received his honorable discharge from the Army as an E5 Sergeant in 1960. He then served 4 years in the Army Reserve.

Bruce moved his family to the farm, where they resided until his health failed in 2019. At that time, they purchased a home in Lewistown. As his health continued to decline, he was a resident at the LaBelle Manor Care.

He attended Bunker Hill Christian Church and Monticello Christian Church. He was active with his children’s activities growing up with school, baseball, softball, 4-H and FFA. When their son, Rick took over the farming operation he drove a school bus for Lewis Co C-1 for several years and prior to that owned a Purina feed store in Monticello. Bruce liked a good baseball game, preferably the Cardinals, and enjoyed playing golf. After retirement they enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Hawaii, and summer on the farm.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of over 62 years, daughter Vanessa Miller (Jim) of Kirksville, MO and son Richard D. (Sharon) of Canton, MO. Four grandchildren: Janna Ingram (Dustin) Brookfield, MO, Justin Miller, Kirksville, Mo., Clayton Hinton and Tyler Hinton, Canton. One step-grandson Jason Miller, Pacifica, Mo and 3 great grandchildren: Kyle Hinton, Allison Ingram and Lucas Ingram; one brother Ron Hinton, and sister Mary Ann Rabuazzo, brothers-in-law, Mike VanMeter (Jeanette) and Roger VanMeter (Janis); sisters-in-law, Louise Perkins (Larry) and Phyllis Segawa (Wesley); and nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Alfred, Norman, and Donald Hinton.

Private family services were held at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, MO. Public graveside services, burial and military honors were held January 16, 2021 at the Monticello Cemetery in Monticello, MO with Pastor Ted Middleton officiating. Pallbearers: Justin Miller, Clayton Hinton, Tyler Hinton, Dustin Ingram, Jason Miller. Honorary Pallbearers: Janna Ingram, Craig Hinton, Norris Hinton, Darin VanMeter and Dustin VanMeter
