VELTA ALENE BARTZ

Mrs. Velta Alene Bartz, 85, of Fowler, IL died March 25, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Home in Quincy, IL.

She was born June 8, 1935 in Camp Point, IL the seventh of 11 children of Leo and Dorothy Hogan Brown. She married Eugene Bartz on September 14, 1957 in Quincy, IL. He died January 25, 2006.

Velta graduated from Unity High School in 1953. She had worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, Quincy Paper Box and had retired from Quincy Specialties. Her hobbies included sewing, baking, trout fishing, St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and spending time with friends and family.

Survivors include four children, Penny Diane (Jeff) Nauert of Broken Arrow, OK, Patty Joane (Dave) Bauer of Quincy, Peggy Luane (Randy) Van Blair of Fowler, IL and Paige Eugene (Karen) Bartz of Gladstone, MO; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly (Matt) Biard, Courtney (Mark) Trudeau, Andrew (Tahnee) Bauer, Meghan Bauer (Brian Harness), Dakota (Brandon) Epley, Sara Van Blair (Will Mitchell), Cody (LeAnne) Kaylor, Tyler Van Blair (Danielle Sutton), Jake Bartz and Eli Bartz; 18 great grandchildren, brother, Richard (Candy) Brown of Quincy, brothers in law, Kenny McPeak of Blandinsville, IL, Charlie (Margie) Sly of Ewing, MO, John Bartz of Ewing, MO; sisters in law, Dorothy Waters of Quincy and Janie (Billy Joe) Smith of Maywood, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Dorothy Jean Bartz, four brothers, five sisters and several brothers and sisters in law.

Funeral services will be held March 31, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in La Grange with Rev. Russell Brownell officiating. Visitation was held March 30 at Davis Funeral Home.  

Pallbearers: Andrew Bauer, Cody Kaylor, Jake Bartz, Eli Bartz, Tyler Van Blair, Brandon Epley, Matt Biard and Mark Trudeau. Honorary Pallbearers: John Bartz Jr., Brian Harness, John Bartz III and Brian Bartz. Music: Amazing Grace by Elvis Presley, How Great Thou Art by Johnnie Cash and Mother by Sugarland.

Burial will be in Maywood Cemetery, Maywood, MO

The family suggests memorials be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, Adams County Suicide Prevention Coalition or to St. Vincent’s Home in care of Davis Funeral Home, P.O. Box 146, La Grange, MO 63448.
