Maywood News

The first day of fall was on Wednesday and we had weather that matched the season. Tuesday evening, we had a two-inch rain that was welcome because everything was dry and needed moisture. This has been another beautiful weekend and now the harvest is in full swing in this area.

We extend sympathy to the Charles Sly family. Mr. Sly passed away on September 20. He had many family members that live in the Maywood area that includes children Lynn Sly, Ruth Allensworth, Ronnie and Richie Sly. His memorial service was on Monday at the Hester Community Church.

The yard sales in Palmyra were a big attraction on Saturday for many folks in the area. Everyone seemed happy with the selections and number of sales.

There has been a big problem with a trash carrier in this area and it seems to be getting resolved by using more local carriers. Many people have already changed to another carrier.
I did not attend the LaGrange School Reunion on Saturday, however, I learned there were about 80 people attended and they enjoyed some nice visiting.

I had a nice surprise at church this morning. My sister-in-law, Ann Brink of Quincy and niece, Becky Fleer of Lewistown came to surprise me on my birthday. It was so nice of them to care enough to think of my birthday.

I am not sure what season it is for Bald Eagles, but people are seeing them often. We had one land in our yard this week that was fun to see.

I celebrate another birthday tomorrow and they seem to come fast anymore as the years slip by. I have learned to appreciate my friends more as I have needed their encouragement and support and this saying reminded me that “A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.”
