There is no doubt that we are into fall now. The trees are changing, and farmers have been working overtime to complete their harvest. We have been enjoying these beautiful days and yet tragedy struck this area on Thursday with a bad accident. Keith Triplett lost his life in a bad grain truck accident on Highway 61 with a semi truck. His parents have been prominent successful farmers in this area and Keith was a full-time farmer and a hard worker. I have a video of him at a church day of celebration of the land and farmers all drove their tractors to church. He did a TV interview about how we need to take care of our land and how much he enjoyed the farm. We extend sympathy to Keith’s wife, his three children , Boyd, Luke and Janie, his father, Jack, and his brother and sister. Unfortunately, his mother has just been gone about a year and this family has had a lot of loss in a short time. Keith will not only be missed by his family but by a community that he was such a part of.

I had a nice birthday on Monday. I went to Columbia with the boys and Rachel, and we had lunch at the Cracker Barrell that I always enjoy and that evening they came with an ice cream cake and gifts. The boys had made steppingstones and painted them, and I appreciated the patience and time Mom had devoted to getting them made. I had other gifts and a fun evening.

Next Sunday during the morning worship service at South Union Baptist in Maywood all the music will be numbers that Albert Brumley wrote. He was a gospel music writer from Powell, Missouri and wrote many songs and probably the most popular one is “I’ll Fly Away”. We will have congregational singing and special music by other members that will be his songs. Everyone is invited to attend.

Cole Schutte is now in Japan and his grandfather; Darrell Eisenberg was showing me some pictures he had taken. One was of a beautiful sunset on Mt. Fiji. Cole serves in the Marines and he and the family were thankful for the friends that put together snacks and sundries for Cole and the group he serves with. Just another example of kindness.

I attended the Hannibal Woman’s Club Board meeting on Tuesday morning in Hannibal. It was at the Hannibal Public Library and many nice improvements have been made there.

Bobby and Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd and Luke attended the Quail Forever Banquet at the Community Center in Madison, Missouri on Saturday evening. Luke was happy about getting to pull tickets for some of the prizes.

Almost everyone you visit with complains about the shape the world is in today. Getting through this pandemic is so difficult for so many folks. We need to remember that the storms that threaten to destroy us, God will use to strengthen us!
