St. Patrick News

Earlier this month, St. Patrick native, Bernard Logsdon, was laid to rest in the Shrine of St. Patrick cemetery.  Bun – as he was known – was one of 10 children of Gabe and Nora Logsdon and grew up in St. Patrick while attending the St. Patrick Catholic School, graduating in 1945.  He was one of the founding members of the family business, Gabe Logsdon & Sons Elevator, and was in charge of loading grain on barges on the Mississippi River at Gregory Landing, Mo.  The St. Patrick community would like to extend our condolences to the family.

These past few weeks the park in the front of the Shrine of St. Patrick has gone through a few upgrades.  The St. Patrick statue,  that was donated by Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Wheeler in 1923, received a fresh coat of paint and it looks fantastic.  The Cross that was originally installed atop the St. Patrick School was placed in the park with lighting to be installed.  Last week, landscaping was done around the cross and the cornerstone from the St. Patrick School was placed next to it.  The statue also received a landscaping upgrade and the 1903 St. Patrick Church cornerstone was placed there as well.  The project will be completed next spring with the planting of shrubbery and flowers.  There will also be an addition of picnic tables to the park for the many visitors that want to relax and enjoy their time at the Shrine of St. Patrick.

The Wreaths Across America flag was raised December 1 on the Shrine of St. Patrick cemetery flagpole in preparation of the Wreaths Across America event planned for December 18h at 11:00am.   Please join us for this moving ceremony that pays tribute to our Veterans that are laid to rest at the Shrine of St. Patrick cemetery.  Immediately following the laying of the Wreaths, the parishioners would like to invite everyone to the Soup and Sandwich luncheon they are providing.

All the families in the St. Patrick community gathered for the Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family.  It was a welcome sight to see and we are very thankful – after 2020 – that we are all able to get together and celebrate!
