James Henry Spratt, 76, of Durham, Mo., died January 20, 2023 at the Clarence Care Center in Clarence, Mo.

James was born April 18, 1946 to Milo Howard and Mary Lee (Goings) Spratt at home near Palmyra, Mo.

He entered the Navy May 29, 1963 and served 4 years on the USS Hancock as a Machinist Mate, Third Class. He received the Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), and Navy Unit Commendation Medal and was very proud of his military service.

James married Linda Kay Shepherd in 1967 who preceded him in death February 3, 2010.

He lived most of his life in Lewis County, Missouri and retired from Gardner Denver after 38 years.

James was a member of the Durham United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed attending games with his sister, Ruth. He also enjoyed fishing, dancing, gambling, NASCAR, and meeting with friends for coffee.

He is survived by daughter Mary Jo (John) Rogers of Nowata, Okla.; granddaughters Tara Kaye (Chris) Renfrow of Bartlesville, Okla.; Amber (Colby) and great-grandsons Corbin and Cannon Burwell of Wann, Okla. Also surviving are a sister Ruth Wilcox of Latham, Ill.; sisters-in-law Carolyn Spratt of Galesburg, Ill.; Sherry Spratt of Ewing, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Eli Spratt and Howard Spratt, sister Doris Carter, brothers-in-law Joe Wilcox and Cecil Carter, and life-long friend Karl Speer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Durham United Methodist Church in Durham, Mo., with Pastor Rusty Schultz officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service in the church. Pallbearers: Colby Burwell, Chris Renfrow, Gaven Jett, Colten Jett, Dustyn Spratt, and Michael Wilcox. Honorary pallbearers: Terry Goings and Larry Logan

Burial with military honors will be in Durham Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Durham United Methodist Church or Durham Cemetery Association in care of Ball-Davis Funeral Home, Ewing Mo.
