ESTHER BRISCOE

Esther E. Briscoe, 101, of Kahoka and formerly of Williamstown, died January 18, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Kahoka.

She was born on July 3, 1921, in rural Williamstown, the daughter of the late Charles Henry & Edith Mae (Brookhart) Welker. She married Raymond D. Briscoe on November 4, 1946, at her parents’ home in Williamstown. Raymond preceded her in death on August 15, 2006.

Esther was a graduate of Ballard High School. She and her husband worked on the family farm for most of their lives. Being a farm wife was one of Esther’s greatest joys. She was a member of the South Wyaconda Baptist Church. Esther enjoyed playing cards, putting puzzles together, pitching horseshoes with family and friends, fishing and loved participating in activities outdoors. Esther liked to put a pot a coffee on every morning and enjoyed sharing it with her family and friends when they would come over to visit. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball fan. 

She is survived by a daughter; Carolyn (Bill) Ellison of Kahoka, four sons; Charles (Carol) Briscoe of rural Canton, Phillip (Connie) Briscoe of Keller, Texas, Randall (Pamala) Briscoe of Williamstown and Kirk (Melissa) Briscoe of Williamstown, seventeen grandchildren; Mike (Genel) Ellison, Lisa (Terry) Anderson, Beth Ellison, Kim Kucera, Chad Briscoe, Clint (Stacia) Briscoe, Heather (Jason) Hall, Joshua (Miriam) Briscoe, Micah (J.D.) Murphy, Seleh (Michael)Thalkeh, Hannah (Hezkias) Mollallegn, Kendra (Parrish) Wiggins, Deborah (Kelly) Wendland, Brandon (Becca) Briscoe, Candice (Scott) Gottman, Jennifer Briscoe, and Shannon (Steven) Damm, thirty two great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, a brother in-law; Norman (Janice) Briscoe of Williamstown and by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by a grandson; Rocky Briscoe, brothers; Charles, Vernon, Lester & Chester Welker, a sister; Vera Brookhart, a daughter in-law; Doris Briscoe, sisters in-law; Melba, Twila, and Linnelle Welker, Jeanette and Margaret Briscoe, three brothers in-law; Otis Brookhart, Robert and Wayne D. Briscoe, a grandson in-law; Larry Kucera and by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held January 24, 2023, at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka. Pastor Orlie Yoder officiated.

Interment was at La Belle Cemetery.
