Sun-N-Surf Opens

June 02, 2020

The Sun-N-Surf Swim Club in Canton traditionally opens on Memorial Day. This year, despite COVID-19, the pool was successfully able to open on time once again. The pool’s board met on several occasions prior to Memorial Day weekend to discuss what opening would look like this year. They formulated a plan including a list of restrictions based on recommendations of the Lewis County Health Department, and guidelines and regulations set forth by the CDC and Missouri Department of health and senior services. Some of the temporary restrictions include members only (no guests), no pool parties or swim lessons, and none of the pool’s tangible items, such as furniture and toys are available for use. Pool employees have ramped up cleaning and disinfecting common areas, and six feet social distancing is encouraged. The board plans to meet mid-June to re-evaluate restrictions. Their hope is to ease restrictions and return to business as usual as soon as possible.

Sun-N-Surf’s Swim Team will begin practices on June 8 at a time yet to be determined. The Club is optimistic that it can get in five or six meets this year, despite the pandemic. The Club is currently offering membership lottery also. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the pool can private message their name and telephone number to the Swim Club’s Facebook page. Winners of a pool membership will be drawn on June 15. The pool board intends to offer several fun events available to the entire community, once COVID-19 restrictions are eased or lifted.
