Lewis County 2020 Fair Cancelled

June 09, 2020

The Lewis County Fair Board released the following statement about cancelling the fair for 2020.

It is with our deepest regrets, but the upmost and sincere concern for our community, volunteers, families, exhibitors, and spectators that the Lewis County Fair Board has made the very difficult decision to cancel our 45th Annual County Fair.  Many factors precipitated this decision, which was only reached after much discussion between members of the Fair Board, 4-H and FFA representatives, Lewis County Health Department, and Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, June 2..

Aside from the health and safety of our community, which is and will always be our first priority, operating procedures that have been established by the CDC and State of Missouri, circumstances surrounding our Carnival’s decision to forego participation, and the current guidelines by which 4-H is having to operate, make the production of a county fair nearly impossible.  The Lewis County Fair operates on a year to year basis, and unfortunately, the risk this year, cannot be substantiated against the threat of years to come.

The Lewis County Fair Board will continue to work with 4-H Council and University of Missouri Extension to make our facilities available in the event their guidelines are lessened so as to make a 4-H and FFA show feasible.  We commend our county youth’s dedication and hard work on their projects thus far and we are ever grateful for the support of our community and surrounding areas.  Each of our sponsors will be contacted individually and those funds handled accordingly.  The Lewis County Fair Board will continue making improvements to the grounds and buildings in preparation for next year, and the Board is discussing the possibility of a fall event, should circumstances allow.
