Betty Louise Crist Stark

Betty Louise Crist Stark, 95, died December 19, 2020 in the La Belle Manor Nursing Home in La Belle, MO.

Betty was born May 4, 1925 north of Ewing, on the farm her father and grandfather were born on, to Thomas Dudley and Jewell Marie Leacsh Crist. She attended Rainbow School, LaGrange High School and graduated from Lewistown High School in 1942. On October 8, 1944 she married Glenn B Daggs. He passed away April 26, 1993. She married Fred Stark on March 4, 1995. He passed away April 13, 2005.

Betty was a homemaker and farmed with Glenn most of her married life. Her first job was manufacturing airplane parts at a factory in St. Louis while Glenn was in the service. After they settled at their farm west of Ewing she worked on the farm, clerked at the Lewistown Sale Barn, sold aluminum house siding and fuller brushes. She became an EMT in 1976 and volunteered with the Lewistown Ambulance service for several years.
She was well known for raising Chihuahua dogs. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting and had many other interests which she shared with the community through Grange, Extension and 4-H programs. Betty was an avid traveler, visiting all 50 states, Mexico and Canada. She enjoyed being a “Winter Texan,” playing cards and games were a favorite pastime. She took pride in her family and community, encouraging all to do their best and explore their interests. She was proud and honored to be known as “Grandma Betty” by many in the area.

As a member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church she was active in the Womens Missionary Unit and helped with the Girls Auxiliary and Bible School. She attended the First Baptist Church of Ewing in recent years. She was a member of the Steffenville Farmerettes, Oyster Prairie Grange, Lewistown American Legion Auxiliary and the Wednesday Coffee Club. In 1939 Betty enrolled in the LaGrange 4-H Club and has been an active member, leader and supporter ever since. She was honored to have a 100 years of service 4-H family and was inducted into the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame in 2018.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ned and Beverly Daggs, a daughter-in-law, Karen and Benny Dodd; granddaughters Angie and Ronnie Hamlin, Amanda and Ben Hesse; great grandchildren, Macy and Isabella Hamlin, August and Newt Hesse; and her cat companion “Tom;” numerous step-children, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Glenn B. Daggs and Fred Stark, one son Roger Daggs, one grandson Lee Daggs, a sister Joann Doscher; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Tom Prigge, Leta and Lester Hoffman, Thelma and Walter Adams, Joann and Elvin Daggs, Dolan and Maryann Daggs and Edward Daggs.

Graveside services and burial will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery near Ewing, MO with Rev. Jesse Rogers officiating. Pallbearers:: Larry Daggs, Carroll Hoffman, Dale Adams, Doug Daggs, Willie Gaus and Matthew Stahl.
