Bennie R. “Sonny” Jarvis, 78 of rural Canton, Missouri walked into the arms of Jesus January 3, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Il.

The son of Howard and Pearl Johnson Jarvis was born on September 22, 1942 at Plymouth, Illinois.

He was united in marriage to Shirley J. Stewart on July 19, 1964 at the First Baptist Church of Lewistown, Missouri. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2019.

Bennie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton where he taught Sunday school for over 40 years. He was a leader for the Royal Ambassadors group, provided ministry at the Lewis County Nursing Home, coached youth league baseball and was an avid bowler. He and Shirley rode their motorcycle to all 49 states. He enjoyed visiting and witnessing with folks on his pharmacy delivery route. Bennie had a contagious laugh and he loved to get together with family and get in a conversation about the Bible and scriptures.

He is survived by two sons, Brent (Shannon) Jarvis of Ft. Myers, Fl. and Steve (Tricia) Jarvis, both of Canton, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Betsy) Jarvis, Abbie (James) Gregory, Mitchel Jarvis, Zach (Julia) Jarvis, Gable Jarvis, Josie Jarvis, Ben Jarvis and Malachi Jarvis; two great-grandchildren, Nora Jarvis and Techiya Jarvis; siblings, Nellie Cameron of Texas, Kenneth (Barb) Jarvis of Columbia, Mo., Kail (Mary) Jarvis of Quincy, Il., Debbi (Marty) Decker of Aurora, Il., Rick Jarvis of Quincy, Il. and Rex (Debbie) Jarvis of Quincy, Il.; sisters in law, Hazel McDermott of Monticello, Mo., Ruth Ann (Harold) Willis of Quincy, Il. and Doris (Ron) Rayl of Granite City, Il.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings in infancy, a sister, Betty (Speed) Marlow, a brother, Howard Jarvis, sisters in law, Leta (John) McDermott and Nina (Gene) Porter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Canton, Missouri with Rev. Brian Stone officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 10 AM until 12 noon at the First Baptist Church in Canton. Pallbearers: Mitchel Jarvis, Gable Jarvis, Nathan Jarvis, Chad Porter, Jim Bolin and Mark Dochterman. Honorary Pallbearers: Zach Jarvis and James Gregory.

Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery at Canton.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
