CHARLES ROBERT SLY

Mr. Charles (Charlie) Robert Sly, age 89, of rural Ewing, Mo., passed away Monday, September 20, 2021 at 3:23 a.m. at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

He was born September 18, 1932 near Canton, Mo., a son of Charles Henry Harrison and Lucille Lay Sly. He married Helen Ruth Bartz on November 22, 1952 in Canton, Mo., and she passed away on May 10, 2000. To this union seven children were born. He later married Margie Lee Reichert Boston on November 8, 2008 and she survives.

He was a life member of the VFW, the American Legion Post #37 in Quincy and Good Sam’s RV Club. He was a member of the Antique Car Club in Quincy and the Hester Community Church. He retired in 1993 after 43 years of work from Gardner Denver Foundry in LaGrange. He enjoyed deer hunting, dancing, country music, going to Mt. Pleasant to the Old Threshers Reunion and spending time with his kids, especially at Christmas. He liked to tease everyone and had a good sense of humor.

Survivors include his children, Robert Lynn (Kathy) Sly of Ewing, Mo., Ruth (Leon) Allensworth of Maywood, Mo., Rose (Steve) Mahurin of Warsaw, Ill., Ronnie (Cara) Sly of Maywood, Randy (Janice) Sly of Quincy, Ill., Richie (Tricia) Sly of Ewing; step children, Carolyn (George) Hanke, Brenda (Chip) Miles, Rusty (Donna) Boston, Patty (Jim) Milner, Teresa Kemp and Merry Sue (Roger) Meals; grandchildren, Kellie (Gabe) Hoener, Beth Collins, Joey Allensworth, Marty (Brooke) Allensworth, Lori (Derek) Smyser, Herbie (Kristen) Cook, Jessica (Tom) Fish, Desiree (Navdeep) Singh, Kerrie (Aaron) Myers, Nathan (Chelsie) Sly, Paula (D.J.) Weiske, Jacob Sly, Jared (Amanda) Sly, Tanner Sly, Tyler Sly, Brandon Sly, Claire Sly, Emily Sly, Audra (Cory) Regan and Adler Sly; step grandchildren, Lisa (Wes) Morrison, Paula (Darren) Littleton, Brian (Lori) Hanke, Bo (Khanettra) Turnbough, Caleb (Kelsey) Turnbough, Chad Wolfe, Jonathon (Casey) Wolfe, Cassandra Boston, Brandon Boston, Cindy Yeo, Amy (Rick) Harris, Rick (Rachel) Kemp, Sharae (Bridger) Abeyta, Samantha (Jerry) Winningham and Dakota Meals; 60 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, two sisters, Betty Duncan of Horseshoe Lake Arkansas and Shirley Rhodes of Carthage, IL; sisters and brothers in law, Edie Sly, Pam Sly, Dorothy Waters, Janie (Billy Joe) Smith, John Bartz, Barb (George) Harbison, George (Marsha) Reichert and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen Ruth, son Rusty, grandson Benjamin Cook, grandson in law Ronnie Collins, siblings Dora Dean Snyder, Imogene Gibson, Billy Sly and John Sly.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Hester Community Church near Maywood with Rev. Lance Bonnell officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Maywood Cemetery, Maywood, Mo. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Hester Community Church.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Hester Community Church or to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund.
