Loretta Bringer

It has been another beautiful week and a lot of corn is being harvested. We are dry and a rain would be welcome. My reports are the yield is good and the corn is dry enough to be acceptable.

Today was special at our house since it is the birthday of Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd. She was born on a Sunday during worship service, and we sang Happy Birthday to her and had special birthday cookies after worship. All of this was a surprise to her and the boys love anyone’s birthday. We had lunch at our home for her and were still celebrating her special day.

South Union Baptist will be enjoying a lot of music in October. On October 10th we will feature music written by Albert Brumley. He is best known for his song “I’ll Fly Away” and wrote many others we are familiar with. He was from Powell, Missouri and his family had a music show in Branson for years.

On October 31 the gospel quartet, “Final Authority” will be at South Union during the morning worship service at 10:30. There will be a lunch provided after the service and everyone is invited to attend and enjoy this gospel quartet.

Jack and Pete Fountain returned today from a visit with their daughter and her family, Katrina and Jeremy Hunerkoch from Highland, Illinois. The parents attended a funeral for Jeremy’s uncle in southern Illinois and Jack and Pete stayed with the children and made sure they got to their school activities that included a band concert, Skye performing at a high school football game and her soccer game on Saturday. Saturday evening was spent playing Toss the Burrito and they left for home on Sunday after attending church at First Baptist Church in Maryville.

I enjoyed a nice phone visit with Dorothy Gorrell of Durham this week. She had noted that I put in the news a comment about all the usual spring blooming plants and trees that were blooming in August out of season. She referred me to an article in the Quincy Herald-Whig on Sunday, August 8th, that referred to this happening and it said all the rain had brought this on. I am still having blooms on plants out of season.

I am healing from an arm injury from a quart of buttermilk. I was grocery shopping, and the buttermilk was on the top shelf. When I pulled out a quart one fell on my arm and made a hole in it. I finally got the bleeding stopped that evening and it seems to be healing with a lot of bruising. There is a smile in every aisle, however, be careful shopping!

Saturday evening, we celebrated Rachel Bringer Shepherd’s birthday with a family dinner at the Patio in Quincy. Attending were Ann and Julie Brink, Ann Haugh, Alison Lain, Marvin and I and Bobby, Luke, Jacob, and Elijah. Marvin had not been out except to church for a long time and it went well, and we had a great time.

The Patsy Geery home in Maywood has sold and they are in the process of restoring it. This will be a nice improvement as it has set vacant and disrepair for some time.

With all the bad news we hear every day there are so many opportunities for us to listen to folks and their needs, to be kind and caring, and appreciate our blessings like the big harvest moon that is beautiful tonight! Have a great week!
