EMMA JEAN JOHNSON

Mrs. Emma Jean Johnson, age 81, of rural Wayland, MO formerly of Ewing, Mo., died October 8, 2021 at the home of her daughter near Wayland.

She was born February 2, 1940 in Rockport, Ill., a daughter of Alvin and Lucille I. Kindle Ward. She married Oscar Franklin Johnson on December 22, 1956 in Quincy, Ill. He passed away on June 14, 2019.

Emma loved to work in her yard, mowing and taking pride in tending to her flower garden. She enjoyed family outings especially fish fry’s and spending time with her family. She also loved to crochet and do puzzles in her spare time. Emma had worked in healthcare in earlier years at Quinsippi Nursing Home in Quincy and also Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, Mo.

Survivors include her daughters, Brenda (David) Cottrell of Kahoka, Mo., and Bonnie (Darren) Cottrell of Monticello, Mo.; grandsons, Eric (Lexi) Cottrell of Kahoka and Josh Cottrell of Monticello; granddaughter, Amy (Zach) Geisendorfer of Lewistown, Mo.; great grandchildren, Coy Cottrell of Kahoka, Peyton, Logan, Emersyn and Andie Geisendorfer all of Lewistown; one sister, Carol Louise Hess of Canton, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Terry Alvin Ward and sister Doris Miller.

Graveside services and burial was held October 12, 2021 at the Durham Cemetery in Durham, Mo., with Rev. Ted Middleton officiating. Pallbearers: Eric Cottrell, Josh Cottrell, Darren Cottrell, Zach Geisendorfer, Peyton Geisendorfer and Doug Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers: David Cottrell, Logan Geisendorfer, Coy Cottrell, Emersyn Geisendorfer and Andie Geisendorfer. Music: Heaven’s Garden and When I Get to where I’m Going

The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
