Ewing News

We’re through with Thanksgiving weekend. Had a very nice Thanksgiving Day at Donnie and Sharon’s. I baked a big turkey, made dressing and giblet gravy, vegetable, apple pie and banana bread. Sharon fixed a mountain of mashed potatoes, corn, hot rolls, pumpkin pie, etc. Phyllis Rogers made her great grandma’s homemade noodles and more great dressing and by the end of all that we were all groaning over all that food, but it’s so good to be with family and friends.

I don’t care about Black Friday shopping much anymore. Use to love going with my daughter and granddaughters and eating breakfast, then shopping and finding all the bargains and special Christmas gifts, now it’s just better giving gift cards. The last several years I’m giving each one different things that belonged to my family years ago. I think these little things give them some of their family history.

We  drove up to Edina Friday to go to the new Mennonite store on the east end of the town, no traffic on Highway 6 and didn’t even have to drive into the busy town and not much farther than Quincy and some very good buys.

Went to church Saturday night and had supper and had the hanging of the greens under the guidance of Sarah Adam. The men put the tree up and everything looks so beautiful. We have so many decorations from years back, it’s just fun to look at the many things and remember where they came from.

How bout that? On TV they just told about the old Sears Catalog in 1944, they mention about being able to order a pre- cut home, When we bought the farm out here on 156, there was a little house on five acres of land, just west of our home. The old neighbors told how it arrived on the train at Ewing, unloaded and hauled out here. It’s been gone since around the late 60’s I believe.

Well, got to get ready for church and make some turkey salad to go to Sharon’s.
