It is hard to believe that Christmas can come so fast after Thanksgiving. Our advent candlelighters Sunday at South Union Baptist were Darrell Eisenberg and his granddaughter, Emma Brinkman. The special music was by Nelson Carter.

Next Sunday is “Celebrate the Joy” at South Union Baptist with the choir presenting the music during the worship hour at 10:30 A.M. and lunch for everyone after the service. This will be a special time of fellowship and we welcome guests.

South Union Baptist Church will have a candlelight Christmas Eve Service at 5:30 P.M. and everyone is welcome.

This area had tornado warnings on Friday, and we did have wind and it remained with us thru Sunday.

Jeremiah Baker is a member of Hannibal Heroes and he along with his mother, Joanna Baker, who was Ms. Santa Claus collected Toys for Tots at Walmart in Hannibal last Saturday. Helping as Mr. Claus was Witt Denish as Santa and a retired Marine, Jesus Delgado of Fowler who is at the American Legion. They collected four truckloads of toys including two new bicycles. Jeremiah is eleven years old and was in the Palmyra Christmas Concert playing the trumpet on Sunday. The proud grandparents, Mark and Sharon Rathbun were in attendance.

We extend sympathy to the family of Chester Clark who passed away this week and lived in the Emerson area. He and his family were well known and good neighbors. His memorial service was on Saturday.

We also want to extend condolences to the family of Debra Wittner who passed away this week and lived in Maywood. Her son-in-law and daughter is Greg and Susan Hultz.

A special birthday luncheon was hosted on Friday by Julie Brink for her mother, Ann Brink. The luncheon was at Thymes Square in Quincy with Ann’s brother, Marvin Bringer in attendance. Others present were Ann Haugh, Loretta Bringer, Jacob, and Rachel Shepherd, and Allison Lain.

I enjoyed the picture of Maywood in the 1920’s that appeared in the Press-News Journal in Canton. It was of the Cadillac and Dodge dealership in Maywood and had several cars lined up in front of the building. My father, J. W. Jones, later owned this building and conducted the Maywood Auction out of it. This was the late fifties and until his death. It drew large crowds and there were cars lined up in the entire streets of Maywood. The family helped with the auction and mother and Geneva Bowman homemade pies for the lunch counter. My father went to auction school in Iowa and at times my brother, William helped with the auction selling. I can remember that oak furniture was not popular then and the round tables were a big liability to get bids on and many were burned because no one wanted them. Later everyone wanted them! It just proves “What goes around-comes around.” Roger Evans is the current building owner.

“Christmas is truly Christmas when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it most” was by Ruth Carter Stapleton and the folks that are suffering from the tornado loss in five states that includes Missouri need our prayers and support.
Happy Birthday to Ann Brink on December 14..Happy Birthday to Rita Cox on December 15. Happy Birthday to Deanie Baumgardner on December 17.
