Merry Christmas to everyone in this special week. South Union Baptist Church had a special morning of music during the worship service on Sunday. “Celebrate the Joy” was presented by the choir with the accompanist, Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd. Soloists were Jana Hattey and Rachel. Nelson and Kelly Carter were the candlelighters. After the service lunch was under the direction of Deb O’Brien and the fellowship time was enjoyed by everyone. The church family was happy that Kaye Durst’s grandson brought her to share the service.

Please plan to attend the Candlelight Service on Christmas Eve at 5:30 P.M. at South Union Baptist.

There is a birthday card shower for Faye McRae this week. Her birthday is December 28, and she will be 85 years old. Her address is Faye McRae, Good Samaritan Home, 2130 Harrison Court, Apt. 32A, Quincy, Il 62301.

The Frank and Florence McRae family were long time Maywood residents and raised their family of five girls in Maywood. Betty, Frances, Ruth, and Mae have all passed away and Faye is the last of her family. She has a nephew in California that looks after her interests and is precious to her.

There is joy in the Darrell and Phyllis Eisenberg family with the arrival of their grandson home for a visit from the Marines. Cole Schutte is here visiting his parents and family during the holidays and Darrell and Phyllis hosted a celebration for him on Sunday evening.

I had a wonderful time with lunch on Friday with friends, Alicia Rollins, Ellen Stark, Pat Gaines, and Beth Hansmeier in Hannibal at The French Hens. Barb had beautiful decorations for Christmas and of course, great food.

We still have community members with Covid or suffering effects from it. Let us not forget them during this season.

I have written a number of times about kindness in this column and would like to share one that happened this week. Carlene Booher makes wonderful cookies, and her Peanut Butter cookies are great. On Saturday evening, she had Steve driving her around the community sharing her cookies with folks and we were the recipient of my favorite cookie.

Then another nice surprise arrived when my neighbor, Paula Mitts was out delivering cookies and shared some beautifully decorated cookies with us. A great community to be a part of.
Christmas is a day of rejoicing, reflection and holds all time together. May we always remember that Christmas is the birthday of Jesus, and He is the “reason or the season.”

Happy Anniversary to Bruce and Kathy Bringer on December 27.

Happy Birthday to Elijah Shepherd on December 29.
