Canton Public Library was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $4000 from the Secretary of State’s Office for the purchase of 29 STEAM-to-Go kits.
The kits will be available for check-out soon, but Library Director Mary Kay Lane encourages everyone in the community to come and experience the kits in the library. “The kits are designed to offer hands-on learning experiences for kids and families, and they cover a wide variety of disciplines and topics. Each kit contains a book as well as several unique games, activities, or equipment related to a topic. The Flowers and Unicorns Kit, for example, teaches kids about coding through the use of a unicorn, a magic wand and a flower garden. The Money, Math, and Economics Kit contains a shopping game as well as a toy ATM machine and plenty of play money.” Other kits include a Kindergarten Readiness Kit, an All ABout Dinosaurs Kit, Tot Time Game Night, Musical Instruments, Family Game Night, phonics kits, a Rocks and Fossils Kit, microscopes and telescopes, and many more.

“Many families and kids have discovered that the kits are another great way to spend some time together at the library, and kids often use them as they await their turn on the computer.”

This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provision of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

The library is located at 403 Lewis Street in Canton. It is open Tuesday - Friday 9 AM to 6 PM and Saturdays 10 AM to 2 PM. Visit the library’s website at www.cantonmopubliclibrary.org, find them on Facebook at Your Canton Public Library, or call 573-288-5279.
