The Highland Cross Country team competed at the MSHSAA Class 2, District 3 Championships on Oct. 29, 2022. The Cougars were again led by Junior Ethan Clow who finished 51st overall out of 120 runners with a time of 19:57.4. Junior Gage Rudd (77th) was next with a 21:51 and Freshman Nathan Caudill (97th) finished with a 23:20. Sophomore Gary Wright (106th) was 4th for the team, finishing with a 24:51 and Senior Lucas Honts (110th) rounded out the team score with a time of 25:43.
For the Lady Cougars, Junior Macy Hamlin finished 66th overall with a time of 28:29, while Senior Morgan Patton finished 75th with a time of 31:39. The big story of the day for Highland was Junior Kaycie Stahl, who stamped her ticket to the MSHSAA Class 2 State Championships next Saturday, Nov. 5, by finishing 14th place overall and running a 22:52 at Fulton. Coach French said, “It was a good day for Highland Cross Country. Kaycie ran her 6th sub-23-minute 5k of the season and is returning to state. The boys all ran well. Gary Wright and Lucas Honts both ran their PRs (personal records) today, which is what it is all about! Now we are taking the team to Six Flags to attend Fright Night and spend some quality team time together.”

Stahl will compete at the State Championships on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Gans Creek in Columbia. Her race time is scheduled for 9am and is the first race of the day. Admission price is $10 and is required for all persons 6 years of age and older. Gates open at 8:00AM. Parking is available at Gans Creek on a first come-first serve basis. Tickets can be purchased from the MSHSAA website. On behalf of all of Cougar Nation - Good luck Kaycie!
