Library Card Sign-Up Month

August 30, 2023

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Canton Public Library joins libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the valuable resources available with a library card.

From borrowing books, ebooks, and audiobooks to getting homework help, learning new skills, joining a book club or accessing research databases, signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning. Canton Public Library patron Andrea Hill says she appreciates all the resources available to her and her children. “I can’t imagine how much money we’ve saved by getting books from the library. The Interlibrary Loan service as well as the STEAM-to-Go kits have been great for our family.”

Canton Public Library has special perks for those who sign up for a card in September, or come in to renew or update their library cards. From library keychains to homemade cookies, come in for a card, check out a book, and get a gift!

Canton’s own Pelican Bob will be out and about spreading the word about the value of a library card. Watch the Canton Public Library facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CantonMOPublicLibrary to see where Pelican Bob shows up with his library card!

There is no age requirement to get a library card at the Canton Public Library, but those applicants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Applicants or their parents or guardians must show a photo ID and provide proof of current address. Canton Public Library cards are free to those who reside within Canton city limits or own city property. For those outside city limits the fee is $20 per year.
