HAZEL I. MCDERMOTT

Hazel I. McDermott, 84 of Monticello, Missouri passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

The daughter of Nolan and Leona Bringer Stewart was born on October 23, 1938 in rural Lewistown, Missouri.

Hazel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton, Missouri. She served as the Lewis County Collector for 25 years and then worked at the Northeast Missouri Abstract Agency and was a dispatcher for law enforcement. She also volunteered at the Lewis County Food Pantry and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and putting together puzzles.

She is survived by two sons, Dale (Jami) McDermott of St. Charles, Mo. and Roger (Kim) McDermott of Quincy, Il.; six grandchildren, Lauren McDermott, Conner McDermott, Heather McDermott, Jessica McDermott, April McAfee and Suzanne Duncan; five great-grandchildren, Konner Allensworth, Arianna McDermott, Rowan Summers, Drew McAfee and Emma McAfee; two sisters, Ruth (Harold) Willis of Quincy, Il. and Doris (Ron) Rayl of Granite City, Il.; and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Paula Lang and three sisters, Leta McDermott, Shirley Jarvis and Nina Porter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton, Missouri with Rev. Steve Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 16 from noon until the time of services at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton.

Memorials may be made to the Lewis County Food Pantry.

Pallbearers: Chad Porter, Conner McDermott, Ross Allison, Tyler Farr, Justin McDermott and Mark Hoewing.
