Artist Brittany Welker at Canton Public Library
The Canton Public Library’s Guest Artist Series continues in October featuring the artwork of Canton resident, Brittany Welker. A public reception hosted by the Canton Area Arts Council is planned for Thursday, October 5th at 5:30-7:00 PM at the library.
Welker completed her undergraduate degree at Culver Stockton College and her Master’s degree atThe University of Missouri. She holds two undergraduate degrees, one in Art Education and the other in Fine Arts. Her Masters degree is in Art Curriculum. Locals may know Welker from her role as art teacher at Canton R-V, where she has been teaching for twelve years. She also works as an Adjunct Professor at Culver Stockton College. In addition to her teaching duties, Welker started her own business in 2013 called Brittany Welker Photography.
Welker’s artwork includes photography, watercolors, and pen & ink. She thinks of her style as “loose”, allowing the viewer to interpret their own concepts of some of the work. She enjoys nature and being outside, so that is reflected in much of her artwork. Welker says, “I love watching light transform and cause transformation in subjects. I love Georgia O’Keefe and Hudson River School work.”
Welker’s artwork will be on display in the library throughout the month of October.
The reception and art exhibit are open to the public and are suitable for all ages.
The library is located at 403 Lewis St. in Canton, MO and is open Tuesday through Friday 9 AM - 6 PM and Saturday 10 AM - 2 PM. Visit the library at www.cantonmopubliclibrary.org, on Facebook at Your Canton Public Library, or call 573-288-5279.
