John Duane Searle of Columbia, Missouri, died September 27, 2023 at the University of Missouri Hospital, in Columbia. He was 64 years old. Duane was born to John and Evelyn Searle at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois on April 1, 1959.

He spent his childhood on his parent’s farm near Canton, Missouri and then later on their farm south of LaBelle, Missouri. Duane was baptized into the Christian faith at the First Baptist Church in LaBelle, Missouri. He was a 1976 graduate of Highland High School and in 1981 graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture.

During his school years, he belonged to 4-H, FFA, was a trumpet player in the school marching band, served as the official bugler for the LaBelle American Legion, and helped out with his parent’s farming operation. After college, Duane moved to Columbia, Missouri and worked for MBS Textbook Exchange. He worked there for 38 years and was the receiving supervisor for the second shift. Duane enjoyed traveling and visiting historical sights.

Duane is survived by his sister Carolyn Searle of Branson, Missouri, an aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Keith Albertson of Apex, North Carolina, and numerous cousins. Duane was preceded in death by his parents John and Evelyn Joan Searle, grandparents Archie and Oleva Payton, grandparents Byron and Ida Searle, an uncle and aunt Howard and Barbara Searle, an uncle and aunt Alan and Mary Payton, and an uncle Carlos Payton.

A graveside service was held October 2, 2023, at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, Missouri with Pastor Bob Korff officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Patton Funeral Home in Huntsville, Missouri.
