KAREN CUNNINGHAM

Karen A. Cunningham 78 of Waimea, Hawaii, and formerly of Honolulu, died September 25, 2023 with her loving family by her side.  

She was born March 30, 1945, in Chicago, Ill., to Theodore and Helen Lipinski. 

 Karen had a keen sense for real estate. She started out as a secretary and quickly learned the business. She became a Commercial Realtor in the 1980s and later became a broker. Karen received her CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation on November 15, 1992.  She served as President, Vice President of the Hawaii CCIM Chapter, and also served on the Board of Directors for the Hawaii Chapter.  In 1992, she won the Candidate of the Year Award and in 1993 won the President’s Outstanding Executive Award. 

 Karen was also a member of the Unity Church of Diamond Head where she served as a board member for seven years.  She was also a member of the Uluniu Swimming Club and also served on their board for several years.  She loved to share her wisdom and encouragement with her many friends and family.   

 Karen is survived by her loving husband James Gary Cunningham, formerly of LaGrange, Mo., and her daughters Leesa (Jay) Robertson, Eulynna (Jeff) Jarmoc, Heather Revis, and Andrea (Mathew) MacDougall and grandchildren.  She was a loving Busha’ to Asher Robertson, C. Tyler MacDougall, Zane Robertson, Ellianna Jarmoc, Abigayle Revis, Drew MacDougall, and James Revis.  She is also survived by her sister Donna Pickett and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Theodora Ziegweid, and son Christopher Townsend.   

Services were held at Kawaihae Bay on October 7, 2023, with pastor Leavitt Thomas officiating. Dodo Mortuary of Hilo, HI., were in charge of arrangements
