Shirley A. Dieringer, 95, of Quincy died December 31, 2023, at Good Samaritan Home.

Shirley was born August 30, 1928 in La Grange, MO, the daughter of William and Laura Schurman Maiers. She married Oliver “Ted” Dieringer, Jr., on February 26, 1955 in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1975.

Shirley was a 1946 graduate of La Grange High School. After the death of her parents, she made a home with her uncle, Buddy Maiers, and his wife Azaline. Shirley went on to attain her degree in nursing from Blessing School of Nursing in 1950. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the office of Dr. Randall McClelland until her retirement in 1990. Shirley was baptized and confirmed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in La Grange. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy. Shirley was also a member of Blessing Hospital Nursing Alumnae Association.

Survivors include: four children, Kay (James) Cook of Urbana, IL, Steve (Deborah) Dieringer of Columbus, OH, Mark (Margaret) Dieringer of Easley, SC, and Jan (Mark) Risley of Springfield, IL; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two special cousins (who were more like sisters), Arlene Nunn and Louise Fishback; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by father, William Maiers, mother, Laura Maiers, daughter, Lynn Cochell, Brother, Wesley W. Maiers.

Memorial Service: 11:00 am Friday, March 22, 2024, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with Rev. Martin Eden officiating. Visitation will be at time of service. Private inurnment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
