HOMEBANK Educates Teens on Banking Options

March 21, 2024

Jenna Schrage and Kelly Berhorst presented HOMEBANK’s “Banking 101” to students in Katrina Schaefer’s Personal Finance Class at Canton High School on March 6. They discussed types of accounts, credit and debit cards, loans, interest, fraud, mobile apps and the importance of banking locally, among other things.

“If they have not done so already, many of these students are considering their very first checking account, so the timing is perfect,” says HOMEBANK Vice President of Operations Rachel Schlipman, who designed the course. “We base the examples on HOMEBANK accounts, but the rules about how to avoid fees, how interest works, the impact of your credit score, etc., is the same at every bank.

“Students always enjoy talking about the mobile app,” she continued. “We think it’s important that they also understand what they need to do to get a car loan and how to be on guard against the endless kinds of fraud that they will be faced with as adults.”

HOMEBANK, Member FDIC, located in the Canton Shopping Center, is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2024.
