Canton Juneteenth Celebration

Several events are planned in Canton to celebrate Juneteenth. The Canton Public Library will have a program on June 19 beginning at 6 p.m. to learn about the ‘Grandmother of Juneteenth’, Miss Opal Lee, followed by the story of Mary Meachum told by Mr. W.T. Johnson.

Juneteenth will continue at Martin Park on June 22 from 1 to 6 p.m. Food will be available throughout the day. From 1 to 3 p.m. tours by bus are offered free of charge visiting all the African American School locations and include the Second Baptist Church site. Guest speaker Mikael Levin from New Yark will tell about the journey that brought him to Missouri. Visitors will enjoy a story by W.T. Johnson from 4- 6 p.m. along with games, music and other activities.
