DR. JAMI TIPTON  

June 25, 2024

Dr. Jami Maree Tipton passed from this life on June 21, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.  Jami was born on December 14, 1975, in Galesburg, Illinois to Paul and Brenda (Barnes) Kinney. 

Jami married Mark Allen Tipton on July 11, 1998, at Life Tabernacle in Canton, Missouri.  They were married for 25 years and 11 months.  They were blessed with two sons, Keagan & Phoenix Tipton. 

Jami’s passion was in education.  She studied and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Culver Stockton College at Canton, Missouri.  Jami received her Master’s of Science followed by her Master’s of Applied Behavior Analysis from Walden University.  She completed her Doctorate in Reading and Literacy from Walden University in 2014. 

Jami gave many years to the education system.  Of note are K-3 Special Education in Montgomery, Alabama; Special Education Teacher also in Alabama.  She finished her Education career in Canton, Missouri as an English Language Arts (ELA) 7th – 10th grade teacher while also teaching a Dual Credit Psychology class through Culver Stockton College.

Jami loved her fur baby Chesney Cash, Christmas Trees of which she had multiple each year and Coffee was her lifeline.  Although Jami did not always feel that she made an impact in the lives of her students, many of them have commented on how having her as an instructor has changed their lives for the better. 

Jami is survived by her husband, Mark Allen Tipton, two sons, Keagan Tipton of Canton, Mo., and Phoenix Tipton of Canton, Mo., and two daughters Meghan Tipton-Bodden and her wife, Carlee Bodden of River Falls, Wisc., and Courtney R. Tipton and her husband, Jarques Jackson of River Falls, Wisc. Four grandsons; Riley J. Jackson, Ezeckial M. Jackson, Tallen J. Jackson, and Jahmeir K. Jackson all of River Falls, Wisc.  Parents, Rev. Paul Kinney and Brenda (Barnes) Kinney of Canton, Missouri.  Brother, Aaron Kinney and his wife, Heather Kinney of St. Charles, Missouri.  Grandfather, James LeRoy Barnes, of Onawa, Iowa, Uncle Rev. Brian Kinney and his wife Pam Kinney of Onawa, Iowa. 

Jami is also survived by other numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Jami is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Joan (pronounced Jo Ann) Barnes of Onawa, Iowa.  Paternal Grandparents, Farnam W. Kinney and Dorothy M. (Wiggs) Kinney of Onawa, Iowa. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Life Tabernacle Church in Canton with Rev. Robert Axton and Rev. Phillip Darnell officiating. Pallbearers:  Keagan H. Tipton, Aaron T. Kinney, Kelly K. Kermoade, Tanner J. Kinney, Shawn M. Leach, Joshua W. Kermoade and Brady J. Paape.

Honorary Pallbearers: James Leach, Phoenix S. Tipton, Meghan R. Tipton and Courtney R. Tipton.

Music:  Heather Kinney, Alyssa Cassaday, Ruth Tipton and Sharon Paape. Visitation was held June 24 at Life Tabernacle Church.

Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery, Canton, Mo.  

The family suggests memorials be made to Hope Dealers Mission Group Inc.
