ROY SCHUTTE
September 18, 2024
Roy Joseph Schutte, 95, of Canton, died September 9, 2024 in Canton, Mo.
Roy was born October 28, 1928, in Quincy, Ill., to Leonard and Tilly (Siebers) Schutte. Roy was married to his beloved wife, Naomi Stockdale, in 1948. Their union was a testament to devotion until Naomi’s passing earlier this year.
Roy’s work ethic was as strong as his love for his family. He dedicated many years as a factory worker at Firestone Retread and Electric Wheel, and later served the community as a janitor at Canton Schools. Beyond his professional endeavors, Roy was a passionate hobby farmer, tending to his land with the same care and attention he gave to all aspects of his life. His Catholic faith was a cornerstone, guiding him through life’s challenges and celebrations.
Those who knew Roy will fondly remember his diverse interests. He had a sweet tooth that was legendary and could often be found humming along to the tunes of the 1950s. A daily ritual for Roy was reading the newspaper, staying informed and connected to the world around him. His mornings were dedicated to his cattle, as he walked the fence lines of his farm, ensuring all was in order. Roy’s love for his tractor, combine, and the satisfaction of bailing hay were unmatched. The farm was not just his home, but his sanctuary.
Survivors include his son, Randy Schutte (Marianne); and his granddaughter, Robin Anne Lease (Bobby); all of Quincy.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and three brothers, Butch, Kenneth, and Jerry Schutte.
Graveside Service: 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy with Fr. Bruce Scott officiating.
