Civil War Event
September 18, 2024
The City of LaGrange hosted a Civil War living history and battle reenactment on Sept. 13, 14 and 15. Students from Highland and Canton Schools were invited the first day and learned about Civil War life. Roger Harmon talks about weapons of the war. Steven Boone from Texas portrayed Robert E. Lee. A pig was roasted with the same method used during the Civil War. The medical tent demonstrated how illnesses and wounds were treated. A night time cannon shoot was held Saturday and at the same time a riverboat cruise floated by on the Mississippi River. Students were very interested in the demonstration and the reenactors all commented on the good behavior and attitudes of the students from both schools. The battles each day were held at the beach. Special appreciation to the reenactors, vendors, LaGrange Lions Club, City of LaGrange and everyone who visited LaGrange and enjoyed the events.
A healthy Lewis County requires great community news.
