Zelma Jean Marquette, 89, of Ewing Missouri died September 25, 2024 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
She was born September 12, 1935 in Early, Iowa a daughter to James and Freda Carder Hutcherson. She was united in marriage to Ansel Marquette on April 2, 1977 at the Durham United Methodist Church in Durham, Missouri. He survives.
Zelma was a 1954 graduate of LaBelle High School. She was a member of the Durham United Methodist Church. She worked at Quincy Paper Box before getting her beauty license. She enjoyed doing hair at the LaBelle Manor Nursing Home and operated a beauty shop in her home in Ewing, Mo., for several years. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, shopping, taking country drives, playing cards and dominos at the Ewing Senior Center. Loved spending time with Ansel deer and mushroom hunting. Spending time with her family was one of her greatest joys. She always said if I can’t do it, it don’t need done.
Survivors include her husband, Ansel Marquette of Ewing, Mo.; children, Kent (Pam) Tonnies of Gilman City, Mo., Beverly (Richard) Strieker of Maywood, Mo., Linda Hodges of Ewing, Mo.; step children, David Marquette of Lewistown, Mo., Linda Taylor of Florida and Barbie (James) Tyson of Florida; grandchildren, Marcus (Michelle) Hetzler, Desi (Alan) Bartz, Melisa (Greg) Phillips, Dustin (Jennifer) Hudson, Brandy Tonnies, Trey Tonnies, Matthew Hodges and numerous step grandchildren. Twelve great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Rebecca Shoengood, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services: September 30, 2024 at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown, Missouri with Rev. Rusty Schultz officiating. Pallbearers: Marcus Hetzler, Alan Bartz, Dustin Hudson, Greg Phillips and Trey Tonnies.
Burial: Ewing Memorial Cemetery in Ewing, Missouri.
