Highland Cross Country at Gans Creek Classic

On Saturday, September 28, the Highland Cross-Country team competed at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., on Sept. 28. This meet is the Pre-State Race held on the state course. The Cougars competed in the White Division which started with the girl’s race followed by the boy’s race at 8:30am.
The races were large with 234 runners in the girl’s race and 213 in the boy’s race.
Highland’s Sophomore runner, Eva Logsdon (94 th), competed in only her second cross country race ever and was the Lady Cougar’s top runner finishing the 5k race with a personal best 23:46, which improved her also set a new personal record time finishing the race in 25:21, which was over a minute faster than her previous best.
Junior, Nathan Caudill was Highland’s top runner in the Varsity boys race setting a new personal record also with a 19:46.3. Sophomore, Tyler Seals was next across the finish line for the
Cougars with a time of 22:27.1 and Senior, Gary Wright was next with a time of 23:22.5. Both Seals (14 seconds faster) and Wright (2 minutes faster) set new personal records with their performances on Saturday.
Coach French said, “The Cougars Cross Country team had an outstanding day with every runner improving their times. We may not have brought home any hardware, but that’s not always what is most important. I couldn’t be prouder of the performances we had on Saturday. This meet was extremely large with over 200 runners in both races and schools spanning at least 3 different classes, so we really did very well!”
The team traveled to Elsberry on Oct. 1.
