Canton School Board - Nov. 11

The Canton R-V Board of Education met on November 11, 2024 in the Canton R-V Library Media Center Conference Room for the regular, monthly business meeting.
The following items were discussed in the consent agenda: meeting minutes, transfers, amendments, building, principal reports, attendance, lunch, and safety reports.
Following the consent agenda, the Board authorized the payment of the monthly bills.
Superintendent Uhlmeyer presented the monthly financial report to the Board of Education.
The balance in Funds 10-60 as of Oct. 31, 2024 was $4,967,944.37. This is a $2,998,295.44 decrease from the previous fiscal year that was anticipated due to bond repayments and ELC construction expenses.
The total balance Funds 10-20 as of Oct. 31, was $2,021,179.63. This is a $131,140.29 increase over the previous fiscal year. They will continue to do in-depth analysis on Funds 10-20 over the course of the next several months as they move into the budget preparation process for Fiscal Year 2026.
The unrestricted balance in Fund 10 – Incidental on oct. 31,was $1,760,828.47, which was an increase of $234,165.69 from the previous fiscal year.
In reports, Mr. Uhlmeyer presented information regarding the Board of Education filing dates for the April 2025 election. The filing dates are December 10, 2024 through December 31, 2024. There are two seats that have terms expiring, Frazier and Sallay. Paul Richards from Wade Staples presented the FY24 Audit Report to the directors. There were no findings in the audit and Mr. Uhlmeyer thanked Teresa Turgeon and Kelly Cox for their work during the audit.
In current business, the Board took action on the following items: Approved the FY24 Audit Report; Approved applying for the FY25 Enhancement Grant; Approved an amendment to the long-term substitute teacher rate. This amendment will increase the substitute rate of pay on the 20th consecutive day in one assignment to the daily rate of the base salary.
During executive session, the Board discussed the following: Approved early graduates; Approved part-time students; Accepted the resignation of Teresa McKenzie effective at the end of the school year; Accepted the resignation of Josh Thrower effective at the end of first semester; Approved the hiring of Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez for High School ELA; Approved an after-school tutoring contract for Beau Turgeon.
