The Canton Public Library welcomes Dennis Babbitt of Louisiana, Missouri as their first Guest Artist of 2025. All are encouraged to visit the library in January to view his art. A Guest Artist Reception will be held on Thursday, January 9 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the library, located at 403 Lewis Street in Canton, Missouri. A gallery talk begins at 6:15. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided by the Canton Area Arts Council.
Dennis Babbitt primarily paints the landscape in a desire to capture the beauty and serenity that surrounds us. Working primarily in oils, gouache, acrylic and watercolor, his art is influenced by the work of the Hudson River school, California and Pennsylvania Impressionist schools and artists such as Skip Whitcomb, Sam Hyde Harris, Percy Grey, Clyde Aspevig and many others.
Dennis Babbitt received a BFA in Printmaking from Missouri State University in 1975 and has continued his studies over the years through various workshops. He is married to the love of his life and lives on 60 wooded acres outside of Louisiana Missouri.
