Highland Basketball Tournament

The Highland basketball tournament was played last week, Jan. 6 to Jan. 11, with the Monday night games postponed due to weather.
In the girl’s bracket, Canton won over Kirksville, 52 to 44, Highland girls beat Clark County 46 to 29, and Keokuk won over Macon 54 to 44. (The Keokuk and Macon games were played at Palmrya, due to the postponement of the first round, and to keep the tournament on schedule. The next round winners bracket, Palmyra won over Canton 57-34 and Keokuk won over Highland 54-44. Kirksville had a bye in second round and Macon defeated Clark County 44 to 30. In consolation Kirksville won over Macon, 40 to 39. Highland Lady Cougars took third place with a win over the Canton Lady Tigers, 31 to 29.
On the boy’s side in first round,Canton beat Clark County 56-42. Kirksville won over Highland 72 to 34 and Keokuk won over Macon to advance. Canton went on to face Palmyra and won 66 to 42, Kirksville lost to Keokuk 64 to 38. Highland boys lost their second game to Macon 64 to 50 and Clark County won 52 to 36 over Macon to take home consolation. Palmyra beat Kirksville 62 to 57 to take home third place and in the championship game played Saturday afternoon, Keokuk won first over the Canton Tigers.
