Darrell was a man of many passions, with a vast love for the outdoors. His adventurous spirit took him elk hunting with friends in Colorado and on travels to Wyoming, South Dakota, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Darrell loved his annual trips to Six Flags, was enthusiastic for NASCAR races, and was a true Chevy guy.
Darrell's dedication to his community was unwavering, demonstrated by his 14 years of service as a LaGrange volunteer firefighter and first responder. He was also an active member of the City of La Grange Lions Club. He and Robyn also owned D&R mobile entertainment sounds system and a soft server Ice-cream trailer that they would do together as a side job. He had a dry sense of humor and quick comebacks were a source of joy and laughter. Darrell's playful spirit could be seen in the notes he would leave in the shower steam for the love of his life Robyn. He could amazingly draw with accuracy on the Etch A Sketch and would leave drawings of smiley faces for all to enjoy.
An outdoorsman through and through, Darrell reveled in hunting deer, turkey, and mushrooms, as well as fishing, camping, canoeing, kayaking, and skiing on the Mississippi River. His hands were skilled in fixing and building, making him the go-to person for any project. Darrell's love for nature was matched by his love for gathering with friends and family, whether it was hosting fish fries, racing three-wheelers, or simply enjoying coffee at a buddy's home.
Darrell liked to mow his lawn, a testament to his care and attention to detail. He enjoyed listening to country music and he attended many concerts with his wife such as Alice Cooper, Kiss, and Hairball.
Above all, Darrell's greatest joy was his family. His heart was fullest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren, whether it was coaching T-ball or assisting his granddaughter with Girl Scouts or spending time with them at the swimming pool that became a haven of memories and laughter. His legacy will be carried in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to a life richly lived and generously shared. He will be deeply missed.
