Disabled American Veterans Information
May 16, 2025

The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is an organization for veterans, much like the American legion and the VFW.
The difference being what we do for the Veterans. The DAV has 3 main purposes.
First:We provide transportation to any veteran needing to go to the Iowa City VA for medical treatment. We have a van that currently leaves Quincy and also stops, so far, in LaGrange and Canton, and any place that borders US 61 between here and there. The one that we currently have is not handicap accessible, but it can hold folding walkers. Most days we are home by 3 p.m. The men and women that drive these vans are all volunteers and we are always in need of more of them. A few days of training and a background check and you are in. Some can only drive 1 or 2 days a month, and others drive once a week. It is up to each person. If interested, you can apply by calling 217-228-0695.
Second is taking care of our disabled veterans and their families. We have people that will help any veteran get all of the benefits that they have earned. We have built ramps, helped with groceries and utility bills as well as providing food for the Quincy VA Clinic’s food pantry.
Third, two times a year we have fundraisers, and 100 percent of this money raised stays in our area. We have purchased 150 new electric razors for the men at Soldiers Home in Quincy, we have replaced all of their old Christmas tree’s and outdoor decorations. We have given gift baskets to all of the Veterans living in the Canton Senior Housing area. And currently, one of our members is working with the Canton American Legion.
If you are a veteran, and you would like to come and meet us, please call 573-541-1352. leave a message and we WILL get back to you. Let’s all support the men and women that were there when we need them, as well as the ones now serving.
