Donna Virginia Berhorst, 85, of Canton, Mo., died May 28, 2025, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.
Donna was born July 4, 1939, in Canton, Mo., to Eugene Raleigh and Josephine Marcus Raleigh. She was married to Theodore Henry Berhorst, May 8, 1959, He preceded her in death January 14, 2016.
Survivors include her children, Robert “Bob” Berhorst, William “Bill” (Maria) Berhorst, Virginia Berhorst, and Alan (Nancy) Berhorst all of Canton, Mo., grandchildren Daniel (Katie) Berhorst, Matthew (Kayla) Berhorst, Ashley (Steve) VanDyke, BJ (Lisa) Berhorst, Jason (Jennifer) Berhorst, Kassidy (Alison) Berhorst, Arianna (Collin) Bracey, Jeffrey Berhorst, and Jordan Berhorst, great grandchildren, Piper, Mira, Nico, Braylon Berhorst, Nona, Victoria, Tedros Berhorst, Royce Boyd, Abel Berhorst, Temprance, Loreli, Kinnik, Munroe, Olivia, Ella, Cash, and great-granddaughter ‘baby Willie arriving soon’. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Marjorie Long, Mary Allison, Julia Isabelle Raleigh, and Lucille Lippa, and her brother George Raleigh.
Donna dedicated many years of service to the Canton Bank as a Teller, where she met her husband, Theodore. She also was a farm wife and worked hand and hand with her husband or took care of things when he was gone on the road living the trucker’s wife lifestyle.
Donna’s life was filled with simple pleasures and deep-seated love for her family and community. In her early years she attended St. Patrick School before attending Shelton School in Lewistown, a one-room schoolhouse that instilled in her a strong work ethic and appreciation for the value of education. Later, she continued her education at Gem City College in Quincy, Illinois.
On Sundays, Donna found solace and connection in watching church services. Her passions extended beyond faith, encompassing a love for the vibrant beauty of hummingbirds, and loved all God’s creatures including cats and dogs, and birds often watching and reading to learn more about them. She enjoyed classic country movies and the comforting melodies that went along with them. Known for her exceptional cooking skills, Donna was a gifted cook who delighted family and friends with her delicious meals. She also enjoyed lively card games, bringing laughter and companionship to gatherings.
Donna was a woman of quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering loyalty. Her memory will be cherished for her warm smile, generous spirit, and the enduring love she shared with all who knew her.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Patrick, Mo. Fr. Rob Fields presiding. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery in St Patrick, Mo.
Donna’s Life Celebration visitation 4 to 7 PM, with a Prayer Service at 4 PM, June 2, 2025, at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Mo.
