Alice Ann McCutchan, 92, of Canton, Mo., died May 29, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Alice was born on February 19, 1933, in Canton, Mo., to Carroll S. and Virginia Davis Adams. She married Newton (Newt) Spencer McCutchan, Jr., on August 14, 1955, in Canton, MO. He preceded her in death September 13, 2022.
Survivors include her children, Mike McCutchan of Cincinnati Ohio, Mary (Steve) Hill of Quincy Ill., and Curt (Brenda) McCutchan of St. Louis, Mo. Grandchildren are Tricia (Joshua) Minton, Scott McCutchan, Aaron (Andrea) Hill, Stephanie (Joshua) Chatman, Allison (Kyle) Lidtka, Morgan (Austin) McKinley, Jenny (Joe) Sedberry, Alyssa McCutchan, Benjamin McCutchan, and Wesley (Samantha) McCutchan. Great grandchildren include Caiden, James, Noah, Maclin, Spencer, Eilee, Jayce, Braylee, Brielle, Laken, Silas, Cedar, Oliver, and two more on the way. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mariann Adams, Dova Geisendorfer, and Louise Adams.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter-in-law Marcia McCutchan, and three brothers, Jim, George, and Dick Adams.
She earned her teaching degree from Culver-Stockton College and taught at Canton R-V for 21 years. She was a devout member of the First Baptist Church where she also served as church secretary for a few years. She belonged to PEO in Canton, Eastern Star and was a Mother Advisor with the Rainbow Girls. Alice’s faith was the cornerstone of her life, often saying “God Bless You”, and finding solace and joy in reading her Bible and listening to and singing Baptist hymns. She loved music and was a talented pianist. She especially loved singing fun songs like “Mairzy Dotes (‘Mares Eat Oats’)” and “I Said My Pajamas and Put on My Prayers” to her grandchildren.
Alice’s life was marked by unwavering faith, generous hospitality and a deep love for family. Her deep love for Newt was clearly evident. For 68 years they were an inseparable duo who enjoyed doing life together. Alice’s warm and outgoing personality appeared in everything she did. She loved to cook for her family and friends, always ensuring there was plenty to share. Her hospitality was well known, extending to many friends and family who often gathered at her home. She also found immense joy in simple things: feeding the birds that visited her backyard, caring for her beloved dogs, working on jigsaw puzzles, and cheering on her beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Family summer vacations in the Airstream camper were a highlight as her family enjoyed seeing many parts of America.
With a quick wit and ready laugh Alice often shared riddles, puns and original poems with her family. She had a knack for making others feel welcome and cherished. Her love for Jesus, her family and others was evident throughout her life.
Alice’s Life Celebration was held June 2, 2025, at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Mo. Pastor Curt McCutchan officiated. Pallbearers: Aaron Hill, Ben McCutchan, Wes McCutchan, Kyle Lidtka, Joshua Chatman, Joe Sedberry and Austin McKinley.
Burial: Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton, Mo.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Mo.
