District One American Legion Auxiliary Meeting

District 1 American Legion Auxiliary President Linda Maddox conducted their most recent District meeting at the Hannibal Emmett J. Shields Post 55 on August 3, 2025.
Roll call was held with 7 Auxiliary Units consisting of 20 members present and a special guest Department Auxiliary President, Wanda Kinder, from Festus. The Secretary and Treasures report was given by Wanda Burnett with all approved.
It was announced that the year- end membership report showed that Hannibal held the top percentage of membership in the district of 116.26 percent. Twenty-one District year end reports were sent in to the appropriate Department Chairmen. District 1 won on four different committee reports.
Department President Wanda encouraged everyone to attend the Fall Conference and work on that membership. Her project this year is the Fisher House in St. Louis. She invited everyone to come to her Homecoming luncheon on November 1, 2025 at the American Legion Post in Festus. President Wanda also installed the new District officers for the next 2 ensuing years.
They include Tiffany Blickhan from Canton, Sgt. of Arms; Gail Dietrich from Lewistown, Chaplain; Wanda Burnett from Macon, Secretary; Treasurer; Carol Lockett from Palmyra, Vice President; Linda Maddox Callao, President; Wanda Kinder, Department President; installing officer.
A memorial service was held in tribute to five deceased members who included Deborah Fitzpatrick of Palmyra; Rita Waibel of Edina; Shirley Beale and Jean Taylor of Callao and Nellie Latchford of Shelbina.
Those assisting with the Memorial Service were: Gail Dietrich, Chaplain; Carol Lockett; Jeannie Anderson, Victoria Ornelas, Past Department President; Linda Maddox, President.
The group is still collecting medicine bottles and caps to send to a lady in Quincy who is helping to make individual benches for Veterans in the tiny houses.
The next District meeting will be November 2, 2025 at the Paris, Monroe County 2 p.m. (Submitted by Linda Maddox)
