FEMA School Building Groundbreaking

Several Lewis County C-1 Board members, administrators and staff took part in a ceremonial groundbreaking on July 30, 2025 for a new FEMA building located at Highland Elementary School. The building will be a safe space for students and the community during a natural disaster, as well as being used for classrooms. 
Pictured are those taking part in the first shovels of dirt moved. Superintendent John French gave remarks about the building in an inside ceremony and talked about how the building will be used and the long process of bringing this building into the school system. Robert Reed Miller, school board president also gave remarks and his appreciation to all involved. The building is expected to be completed in August 2026.
