Fire Burns Across Fields

February 25, 2026

A grass and field fire was discovered on Feb.18 on Route P, west of LaGrange. The fire burned across fields and burnt several acres. Pictures is one home owner’s view from their back deck.  The flames racing across the fields. Emergency crews are pictured putting out a large hay bale that caught fire. The plane dropping water was an unusual site and helped control the fire.  Although homes and outbuildings were close, none of them reported any damage.
Residents are reminded to not burn in windy or dry conditions.  Other tips to prevent grass fires include: Never throw smoking materials out of your car. Dispose of barbecue coals properly. Do not drive off-road or park in tall dry grass, as an exhaust system can spark a fire. Never leave any open flame or heat source unattended. Never build a campfire, shoot fireworks, burn debris, use a barbecue pit or initiate a controlled burn when warnings are in effect. Before engaging in any of these activities, check local emergency alerts. Never leave the area unattended and keep a shovel, bucket of water, fire extinguisher or other fire suppression tools on hand.
