DELORES WOOD

Delores N. Wood, a long –time resident of Canton Mo., died March 29, 2017 at the Lewis County Nursing Home where she had been a resident for two years. Delores was born January 13, 1936 in her family’s home in Des Moines Iowa. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John and Martha Dykstra. Her family moved to the Naval Base in Geneva New York shortly after her birth and then to Kirksville MO where Dr. Dykstra attended medical school for his medical degree. Dr. Dykstra moved the family to Canton Mo to start his medical practice. Delores met her husband, Ben C. Wood while living in Canton and three months later they were married in the Canton Christian Church on February 12, 1956. Ben and Delores celebrated their 60thwedding anniversary last year. They started their life together in Salem IL. Ben was a technician in the oil fields for Haliburton. They decided to return to Canton and start a family in the town they considered as home. Delores was an avid traveler, she enjoyed having a garden, to go fishing, and loved to cook and dance. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Delores’s real passion was being a mother to their four children. They are Rose Marie (Michael) Jansen of Liberty IL, Robert (Beverly) Wood of LaGrange MO, Dian (Johnnie) Sommers of Brownsburg IN, and Denise Doran of Canton MO. Delores was proceeded in death by her parents and husband Ben on March 31, 2016. Delores is survived by her four children, Rose Marie (Michael) Jansen of Liberty IL, Robert (Beverly) Wood of LaGrange MO, Dian (Johnnie) Sommers of Brownsburg IN, and Denise Doran of Canton MO. Grandchildren: Dustin Wood, Kristin (Jeremy) Bono, Aaron (Kayce) Jansen, Daniel Wood, Whitney Jansen, Sharon Rickgauer, Heather Balzer, Lynn (Kyle) Burgess, Brittany Doran, and 8 great grandchildren. Delores is also survived by her sister Carole (Larry) Bader of Columbia MO, and twin brothers Dr. Michael (Cathy) Dykstra of Canton MO, and Dr. Steven (Karen) Dykstra of Leewood KS and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held, April 1, 2017 at the Canton Christian Church with the Reverend Mandy Gosik officiating. Visitation with the family was held March 31 at the Arnolds Funeral Home, Canton MO. Pallbearers: Aaron Jansen, Dustin Wood, Daniel Wood, Derek Dykstra, Marty Sommers and John Reiter. Burial will be in the Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton. The family suggests that instead of flowers that donations be made to the Canton Christian Church or the Lewis County Nursing Home Dementia Wing.
