Downtown Monticello looked like this in 1939. This photo by Otto Shanks shows the line of business buildings, many with the old two story porches, that distinguished the town. Identification on the back of the photo of the business is as follows: Post Office, The Welcome Inn, The Monticello Bank, Feed Store, and Veatch Grocery and Appliances.
