FRANCIS LEE KROEGER

On Saturday, November 12, 2022, Francis (Frank) Lee Kroeger, passed away at the age of 82 in his home, doing what he loved best, watching for deer from his back porch.
He was born June 16, 1940 in Durham, Mo., to George L. and Lorena I. Schmid Kroeger. He married Janet P. Zimmerman on August 20, 1966 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Quincy, Ill. They raised three daughters, Carolyn, Julia, & Lisa.

As a young man, Frank entered the army in March 1962, he was later honorably discharged in September of the same year, but enlisted in the army reserves, serving from August 1963 through December 1967. He worked for Electric Wheel in Quincy, Ill., before dedicating his life to farming. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He loved to hunt wild game, but mostly deer and geese. He also loved to fish, hunt for arrowheads and mushrooms. He collected guns, baseball cards and coins. In his youth, he enjoyed trap and actively competed. He also enjoyed watching drag racing, WWE wrestling, westerns and an occasional Sci-Fi film. Frank loved a good story and frequently told them with humor. He loved to go to auctions, and was always searching for a good deal.

Frank lived simply, the way he wanted. He cared for his family and the land. Flannel shirts, pocket tees, and blue jeans were his attire of choice. His true passion was in growing things. He enjoyed planting sweet corn, watermelon, and turnips. This past summer, he grew spectacular sunflowers. He enjoyed the beauty of nature, always feeding squirrels, deer, and birds, with a special liking to hummingbirds and purple martins.
He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Nunn (Todd), Julia Wolf (Kevin), and Lisa Lake (Terry), grandchildren, Morgan and Logan Wolf, Alex and Andrew Nunn, Madison and Megan Lake, sisters, Gloria McDonald, Joyce Wellman, and Sonia Abell, sister in law, Karen Kroeger and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, his nephews, Tom and Philip Genenbacher and Daniel Kroeger, his brother, James, his mother and father, his niece, Valerie Travis, his wife, his sister, Rose Beckman, and his brother, George.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ewing, Mo., with Father Callistus Okoroji officiating.
There will be a rosary service at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. prior to the funeral mass. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 4 until 7:00 p.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing. Music: Steve McKenzie, Guitarist and Connie Schroeder, Vocalist. Pallbearers: Stan Genenbacher, Gary Genebacher, James Abell, Logan Wolf, Alex Nunn, and Andrew Nunn.

Burial will be in the Queen of Peace Cemetery

The family suggests memorials be made to Highland High School Future Farmers of America.
