Brown Joins C-1 Staff

March 22, 2023

Lewis County C-1 welcomes home a Lewis County native for the 2023-2024 school year. Katie Brown (Shuman) graduated from Canton High School in 2012 and then attended the University of Missouri obtaining a bachelor’s degree in special education. Continuing her education while teaching, Katie earned her masters and specialist degrees through William Woods University.

Brown began her career in 2016 at the Fulton Public School District as a special education teacher, where she continued in that position until 2021. Brown then went on to serve as the special education department chair/instructional mentor for the Columbia Public School District. In 2022, Brown accepted the opportunity to return to Fulton Public Schools as a special education process coordinator.

Superintendent John French said, “Losing Julie Flanagan to retirement leaves big shoes to fill, but the administrative team and I were blown away by Katie Brown’s interview. We are so excited to have her joining our team.” Brown will be in the district next week to get a start on the job at Highland while she is on Spring break with her current district. She said, “Coming ‘home’ to serve students, staff, and families has been a dream of mine. My husband, son, and I cannot wait to move back to Lewis County where the small town community feels like family. We are all looking forward to the 2023-2024 school year! I am beyond excited and thankful to join Cougar Nation!”
